Bismuth trioxide (bismuth oxide) is an inorganic compound with the molecular formula Bi2O3. Pure products include α Type β Type and δ Type. α The type is yellow monoclinic crystal, with a relative density of 8.9 and a melting point of 825 ºC. It is soluble in acids but insoluble in water and alkali; β The type is bright yellow to orange, in a square crystal system, with a relative density of 8.55 and a melting point of 860 ºC. It is soluble in acid but insoluble in water. Easily reduced to metallic bismuth by hydrogen, hydrocarbons, etc; δ- Bi2O3 is a special material with a cubic fluorite structure, and 1/4 of the oxygen ion positions in its lattice are vacant, thus possessing very high oxygen ion conductivity.
