Chemical property

Zinc oxide is a well-known white pigment, commonly known as zinc white. It has the advantage that it does not turn black when it encounters H2S gas, because ZnS is also white. When heated, ZnO gradually changes from white and light yellow to lemon yellow, and the yellow colour recedes when it cools down. Using this characteristic, it is mixed into paints or added into thermometers to make colour-changing paints or colour-changing thermometers. Because ZnO has astringent and certain bactericidal ability, in medicine often modulated into ointment use, ZnO can also be used as a catalyst.
