Audited Supplier Lithium hy droxide (molecular formula: LiOH) is a hydroxide of lithium, corrosive, white deliquant crystal at room temperature. Soluble in water, the solution is strong alkaline, slightly soluble in ethanol, there are two states of anhydrous and monohydrate. Lithium hy droxide is a strong base, and its chemical properties are more similar to Group 2 hydroxides in the periodic table, but are quite different from Group 1 hydroxides. It is a white tetragonal crystal, which is strongly corrosive and irritating to the skin, with a melting point of 450ºC and a relative density of 1.46. Decomposition temperature 924ºC, soluble in water, but solubility is lower than other alkali metal hydroxide. Monohydrate is obtained after hygroscopic in air or when crystallized in aqueous solution. It can also react completely with strong or weak acids in aqueous solutions. It absorbs carbon dioxide in the air to produce Li2CO3.
Application:
Lithium hy droxide is used as a grease additive (thickening agent, anti-oxidant, extreme pressure agent), which can improve heat resistance, water resistance, stability and mechanical properties, and can be used for bearings of automobiles, aircraft, cranes, etc. Used as electrolyte raw material for lithium batteries. The solid lithium hy droxide after roasting can be used as a carbon dioxide absorber for the crew of spacecraft and submarines, and the early Mer cury, Gemini and Apollo programs in the United States and the space shuttle all use lithium hy droxide absorbers, reliable performance, and can easily absorb carbon dioxide in the gas containing water vapor. In addition, lithium hy droxide is also widely used in the preparation of other lithium compounds and lithium salt raw materials, and lithium soap, lithium base grease, alkyd resin, spectral analysis of the development agent, alkaline battery additives, photographic developer and catalyst. As an additive to alkaline battery electrolyte, it can increase the capacitance by 12% to 15% and improve the service life by 2 to 3 times.
