Osmium: density 22.59 g/cm ³ (20 degrees Celsius). It is the metal with the highest density. Melting point 3054 ºC, boiling point 5027 ºC. Hexagonal dense lattice. The valences are+2,+3,+4, and+8. Grey blue metal, hard and brittle. Chemical properties are stable, and powdered osmium is easily oxidized. Concentrated sulfuric acid, and sodium hypochlorite solutions all oxidize it. Heating can easily generate osmium tetroxide OsO 4, which is volatile and highly toxic crystals.
